Not even the winter rains could put a damper on the festive atmosphere that prevailed at Wynberg Military Base on Saturday 30 May 2015, where Cape Town Rifles (Dukes) staged an impressive Military Festival that included a Homecoming and Medal Parade.
The festival and parade, which were widely publicised in the local media, were held to welcome home a large contingent of the Western Cape’s oldest Regiment from their recent six-month deployment along the South African and Mozambican border. There was good reason to celebrate for the Dukes, as 21 Infantry Battalion’s Alpha Company, had broken all previous records by confiscating contraband to a value of well in excess of R17 million.
