Cape Town Rifles (Dukes) joined hands with big business on Friday 16 July 2015 to celebrate Mandela Day at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Rondebosch. The Regiment has developed an ongoing social responsibility programme in conjunction with Makro Montagu Gardens, and this year once again set up a soup kitchen at the hospital, providing welcome sustenance to the families of patients at the facility. The hospital is South Africa’s only dedicated child health institution, and some parents spend more than half a day on public transport in order to convey their children to the hospital for treatment.
